Ok, while trying to get my nitrates down I removed the sponge from my overflow. Now two weeks later the tank is no longer making the gurling/sucking noises that it has always made! Anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen? Not upset about it just not use to how quite it is!;D

Well, I'm not sure how your media was situated, but freeing up the flow through the drain would reduce noise, especially if you hadn't been rinsing it frequenty. Prefab overflows strive for a continuous stream, overflow to sump. Water becomes noisy when it's interupted and injected with air.

Probably pulling a straight suction then breaks it when it runs out of water. That will make all kinds of noise.
