Hey Zak, Go to your LFS and look at the tanks that are for sale that are 90 gals and up and that are drilled. Some will have a side mega over flow system( this is what I call the quarter moon wall) and some will have the over flow right smack in the middle of the tank( this is what I call the half a box wall ) but this wouldnt work for you b/c your tank is already set up, sorry. try making another box and install both boxes to see if you get the flow that you want.

adding a second u-tube will allow for more flow to be pulled out of the display but you would have to add a second drain pipe to deal with the excess flow.

Maybe the problem doesn't lie in your overflow but it is in your sump. I was having the same problem as you but I am using a wet dry instead. My problem was that the water was not exiting fast enough on the wet side of my wet dry. Just a suggestion but might not be the problem.

    Zac,
I use a CPR 1200 overflow with aqua lifter pump.
This uses two 1 1/4 drain lines and has no problem keeping up with my mag 12. Was a little noisey at first until I got the air tubes adjusted.
I really think your trouble is the overflow tube cannot supply the pump

    tube problem

I guess the problem could be the 1" tube going to my sump.? I think it is the strainer at the top of my overflow. I does not allow enough water in the tube fast enough. Therefore the water level rises untill enough holes are under water to get enough throughput to my sump. The tube itself is not that full of water. I have a feeling I will get alot of noise if I increase the flow. I would like to install a second overflow but I do not want to build another and I cannot buy one.[there are none which work with a hood.] I can install a second u tube in my current overflow box but I do not think it will change the flow. I do not see why/how a second u tube in the current overflow box increases anything.? If the first u tube is not functioning at the full volume then a second is not needed.

    Correct?

    Zak

ah ha there is your problem you need to get all the air out of the u-tube to get a proper siphon

crappy is right. I used to shake the tube until all of the air was gone. Theres your problem zak. Your u-tube should be filled with water only, no air.

    no no no

I am sorry you are misunderstanding.. Air in tube going to sump....of course I have zero bubbles in my U tube. If air is in U tube then siphon would not work!

Hey zak, when I said to install two overflows I didnt mean two u-tubes in one OF box. All your going to do is to over flow the other box behind. Try installing two separate over flow boxes, one at either end of the tank. When you run the 1"- 1.5" tubes down to the sump, dont join them together to one fitting. Have the two tubes entering the sump separately. Or, just install a stop valve on the return line and close it a little. hope this helps, Luna
