    Hi all.
What do you prefer and why ?
    An overflow or a standpipe.

    Thanks.

They are both needed for the whole system to work. The megalfow/oveflow acts as a strainer for the water before it enters the durso standpipe, and limits the chances of animals making it into the overflow area, possibly getting injured! The Standpipe helps to limit gurgling and noises accompanied with water falling down into your sump!

I prefer my HOT overflow over my megaflow because of the space the megaflow takes up in the tank. I use both, one in my 75g and one in my FOWLR.

    Thanks.

Say you had a 180G tank, how much filtration would you be expecting ?

Correct me if I'm wrong but tank size doesn't matter. It's all about how many times your tank volume goes through the filter per hour.

I'm no help becasue I can't give you the recomended number but on my 180 I have roughly 1500 gallons per hour going through the filter...

You will have less problems with flooding the floor is you go with an internal OF instead of a HOT one. Worries me adding water to something that if it looses it's syphon then your water is going on the floor.

Its not a closed loop its a recirculating loop and its totally opened.. A closed loop is used with a A/C system ot a Hot water boiler heating system or some system of that nature.. The liquid that is being pumped is never exposed to any atmospheric pressure conditions or influinced by them either . On a Aqiraium its a totaly open recirculating system. A pump draws water from a common inlet in tank them its pumped back with voloume rather then pressure to mulitabe return inles around the tank to creat internal currents from varying angles around the tank
