What does everyone think about a skimmer bar for the overflow than a corner overflow box?

Do you mean a bar that will go across the top back of your tank?

Yes with the top of the PVC pipe running along the top(with a slit cut in two spots on the top of the pipe) draining water instead of an overflow box.

Hey sorry for getting back to you so late haha different timezones, yea there's nothing wrong with this idea it'll be quieter than an overflow box because the water is flowing across more of a surface so the force of the water is spread across the entire overflow ( same idea of having a longer box will lower noise)

The functionality of the design is sound I would think. Cons... well it's a pvc pipe hanging in the tank you'll have to look at... other than that... idk. Wonder how one might go about trying to hide the pvc.

I actually don't mind for the pipe to be showing. It'll be more surface area for the foot print of water right? I'm just wondering on like any growths that would form on the 10th of an inch slit, in the pipe and would put me in a flooding situation type thing for my DT. I also know there would be weekly cleaning involved of course.

FTR: this will be a FOWLR tank.

The only con I can see being a problem is noise. It doesnt seem loud in the video but you can see air in the lines from tank drain into the sump. Maybe noise isnt an issue, but it would have to be dead silent for me.

A smaller box with a Herbie style standpipe would be my vote. You can buy kits @ Glass-holes.com and if u dont like it, drill another hole and put the skimmer tube in.

I have a 125 with dual Herbies and you would think the pump was off if you didnt see the surface ripples. Its that quiet.
