overflow

    i have a overflow to a sump. it is a hang on. i just got it but i cant get it to work right. the pump will pump the water up into the tank but when the water goes into the overflow box it doesnt go up the U tube to the other box where it would go down to the sump. its like there is no suction. please help.

    I had this happen and two things... 1.) One side of the U-tube is longer than the other, i think the longer side needs to be on the back side of the overflow. 2.) Make sure that when you start the overflow with a piece of airline tubing, you don't pull the U-tube out of the overflow. (I had it happen many times)

    ok the U-tube is the same lenght on both sides. it was working when i got it but i didnt have the air hose in it. so i have air hose in the tube where the water will go to the sump. i think i understand. that way air pushes the water down to fill the U-tube.

    You have to put the air tube into the U-tube and suck the air out with your mouth (be careful!). Once the siphon starts very carefully remove the air tube from the U-tube. If you don't do it just right you'll lose the siphon again.

    what I do is put a piece of airline tubing to the apex of the curve in the u-tube. Put the u-tube in the overflow (make sure both ends of the u-tube are under water. Then suck in on the other end of the airline. That sucks water out of the tank side up into the u-tube and over.
