Overflows, so many choices, so many prices.

There seems to be a hell of a lot of people who make overflows.

And the price ranges are all over from 40-120

Then there are the DIY'ers who make them.

So if you use an overflow, what kind has been your love?
    Tube or tubeless?

Have you ever had the much feared "power failure no restart" problem?

This one always gets high marks:
prefilter box, siphon box, overflow box, siphon overflow, Eurobrace, Euro-brace, Euro-tank

and people also love these CPRs:
    http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~action~view~idProduct~CR1511~idCategory~FIOFEB~category~External_Overflow_Boxes_for_Aquariums-Overflow_Boxes_for_Saltwater_Aquariums-Saltwater_Aquarium_Fish__Coral___Reef_Supplies~vendor~.html

    But what about cheaper alternatives?

    Like this one:
    Quietflo-600™ Pre-filter / Overflow

Or the ones on this page:
Saltwater Aquarium Filteration , Saltwater Aquariums

I mean I understand the age of wisdom of you get what you pay for.

But these are rather simple devices as far as i understand. They maintain 2 pools of water. When the tank side box fills more the siphon equalizes spilling water over a lip on the outside box side which drains down below.

PS People talk about Amiracle overflows, but I cant find them on the web do they exist any more?

I have a DIY HOB overflow on my 20g nano. It works great and is a very simple design. The siphon even stays primed when the pumps are off. I can send you a diagram if you like.

Can someone comment on this Esshopp overflow?
Reef Aquarium Filtration: Eshopps Overflow Boxes

I know everyone speaks very highly of the lifereef overflows.

But 120 plus shipping and tax is a lot for an overflow.

This looks like virtualy the same design.

I looked far and wide trying to find a Amiracle overflow, but i guess they dont really sell them anymore.

This was the only one i could find that the u-tube came into another area in the back before spilling over into the drain to the tank below. Which made me think this one would actually work as desired.

DO NOT get this one Quietflo-600™ Pre-filter / Overflow, unless you want to deal with the bad customer service and wait forever. It took me over a month too recieve mine after ordering it. I had to contact them like 50 times and eventually when i told them that i was going to report them for website fraud they sent it to me.

Your best bet is to get a lifereef used. I see them on reef central all the time in the classifieds section

Is it safe to drill an established tank? Would the glass particles be bad in the water?

Yeah I cant drill my tank as its fully set up.

Interesting note, I contacted a website that was listed as a Amiracle distributor, because it said on her website that they were not selling Amiracle any more.

She told me that the brand was bought by another company, and the quality has really gone downhill. She said she used to swear by them, but now they are just garbage.
