possible PH??i have heard that you can actually mix your WC water too much/too long. too much mixing and aerating and it causes precip. changing the PH, Ill try to dig up the link.

My tank is only 30 gallons and I know things can change quick... I just don't understand why it happened this time and not any of the other tons of times I have done a water change. I do it the same every time with the same salt and water.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss :(.....it is such a sinking feeling to see that....my crash was due to decreased oxygen but it was because I had insufficient skimming when I started running biopellets.......could something have gotten spilled in it? there has to be something that caused it....

Could power surges somehow shock the fig to death? First thing I thought was my heater must have broken but it was still working fine and there was no power outage that reset our clocks or anything over night. I don't see how anything could have spilled in it. There are no shelfs or anything above my tank anything that gets added is from a person pouring it in.

Anyone use any spray cleaners nearby?

    Floor cleaner?

Use antibacterial soap before sticking hands into tank?

    Windex the glass?

Very sorry for your loss and I feel your pain. That is really sad to here. Yes staining the stairs could have done it. I heard similar fish deaths when someone had their window open and a neighbor was using aerosol spray paint and the fumes got in through the windown.
    :-(

Are the stairs near the tank? when I asked about something getting spilled, I was thinking about kids - sometimes I've heard stories where they "feed the fish" various things trying to help nemo and such :).....fumes can be pretty powerful from staining products....

you mention your water parameters were in check, when is the last time you tested and what were the results?

+1 on what Corailline said once something goes bad in a nano you have to move fast.

    sorry for your loss regardless
