hello there, i was on another forum several days ago and had an issue with my tank

it is a 90 gallon reef with a sailfin and yellow tang. and a hawk two damsels and a maroon and percula clown. i was told this was way overstocked and both the tangs should be separately housed in 100 gallon tanks. is this correct? i was told this would be completely fine and they are very reliable. the tankgs are only about 3 inches as of now.

    any opinions are greatly appreciated

I think you be OK although the sailfin may outgrow your tank.

everything seems fine, except the sail fin. ow large is he? does he and your yellow tang fight? and what about the clowns? I've never tried to mix two different types... especially a maroon. good look!

Tangs are a species of fish that probably cause more heated debate than any other IMO

There are more guidelines / rules about what is morally and ethically acceptable with these fish than any other species IME

should not have these in tanks less than 4ft
should not have these in tanks less than 6ft
should not have more than 1, if your tank is not this big etc etc

Most of the above general principles I do agree with (maybe not as passionately as others)

so on this subject, it really is a matter of who you listen to

2 tangs in a 90 - could cause you to be criticised in some places
and possibly even in this place - 3 reefers have varying degrees of passion, same as everywhere else

    my opinion

they are fine for now, but in an ideal world they will grow quickly
so either be ready to upgrade tank size or be ready to part with the Sailfin once he has reached a size that you would not want to submit a FTS on this or any other site for fear of being criticised due to oversized fish in your tank

i am planning to get a larger tank after i save enough money, but my parents say max of 180. would that be fine?

i am fully aware of the tangs being extremely controversial, but all of you have seemed very polite and understanding, thank you

I agree, everything sounds dandy except the Sailfin tang. A lot of people say a yellow should be in at least a 100g. I disagree with this, a 90 should be fine, as long as there is swimming room and it is not packed to the brim with rocks. The Sailfin though, will outgrow the tank and especially with the yellow, you will probably have issues eventually.
