That's a tough situation Pack, I agree, with that size tank it really should be drilled but you can use a HOB overflow, might be more headache though. Were there any overflows you were looking at in particular? They would need to handle some serious water movement though.

That's unfortunate news, sorry to hear. Personally I would also be looking into getting the back panel replaced to get it drilled.

That said if that's out of the question I've heard only good things about these overflows, and they make one that handles 1200 gph. It seems for the cost of a good reliable HOB overflow though you might be quite a ways towards paying for a new pane of glass and the work on it though plus the benefits of a drilled tank.

Well, getting the glass replaced is NOT an option. Way too much money, it would be a whole lot cheaper finding another tank, or even buying one new. The guy that I normally deal with was not there when I took it in, so I am going to bring the tank back down yet again to confirm when I know he will be there. So I am not too terribly worried till I hear back from him. Its more of a bummer to keep having to load and unload the damn thing. Had to do it alone last time, and the tank isn't a light one
If it is, I most likely will run the HOB overflows, and keep an eye out for another same sized tank that is pre-drilled. That way when I get bored on a 3-day weekend I can swap tanks ;)

I know you have your guy, but if he says its a problem, let me know. I grew up in a mom-n-pop town just north of here. I think I might be able to help you out. I am heading up there today. My parents are friends with the owner of a glass company. I can see about phoning in a favor. I really trust this guy too. SO, just let me know. :-/

    *Updates*

Skimmer came in last Friday. I went with the ASM G4+. Ordered it from one of our newer sponsor's, DIYReef.com. Placed my order Wednesday morning, and it was here on Friday. Also the cheapest price I could find. No complaints here ;) The thing is massive. As a size reference I took the pic of with it directly in front of my 40.

Also got the lumber to at least create the frame structure for the stand Friday. Got all set to make the first cut, and the table saw blew the starter switch  actually not that bad, it was freaking freezing and I really wasn't all that motivated to work in the garage anyhow. 30 year old table saw and Craftsman still has the part :D It will be here by the end of the week.

And I can't forget my weekend helper ;D

That is quite a load. I wanna see pics of it when it comes in for sure. I am going to finish off my tank with reefcleaners rock myself. I have 130lbs and need about forty more for the tank and about 15 for the fuge.
At least you didn't grow up with it when it was popular. Good Lord it was horrible
Wise choice in controllers. Can't go wrong with that one.

Boy this thread got away from me. Read six or seven pages before I caught up. Lame. Sorry about that Jason. Things are coming along quite nicely.

I would give you a K+ for the ferret, but I don't want your head to get toooo big :D What are you going to do about the tank issue? Decided yet?

And that skimmer is a BEAST. I can't wait to hear your report on that thing.

I envy you guys who have time to do a build properly... Not rush into it or move 3 tanks in a day to get a new one!! :-D

    Good luck!
