The top of my paddle sponge is starting to turn a translucent white color do you think may be do to my recent temp spike? it is only about a 1/16" of the top of it that has changed. Or is this normal maybe it is growing?
I have had the sponge for about 2 months and it has been doing fine but recently I forgot to turn my air on in the room my tank is in and the temp in my tank went up to 90 Degrees and I lost my Colt coral I just tested my water here is the results.

    Alkalinity- 8.3
    Calcium- 410
    salinity 1.025
    ph 8.2
    ammonia- 0
    nitrite- 0
    nitrate- 0
    temp - 80
Thank You For Any Help ...................... John

    John,

I know very little about sponges, but I have seen them get the white translucent areas near the top. The area slowly moves down until the whole thing is dead.

I guess a bit of pruning now might stop the process, but don't take my word for it :)

Well, I would use something very sharp like a scapel and make sure that you do it underwater.

Don't just go ahead and do it though John, wait around until someone who knows a bit more about these things turns up :) The reason I say that is I believe that some sponges can release toxins.
