I am about to paint the inside of mt aquarium stand to water-proof it. Is it OK to use mold/mildew resistant paint? I thought I read somewhere that you're not supposed to?

I think you would be looking at trouble because it could gas off chemicals into the sump that would cause trouble for your system.

You mean painting it at all, or by using the mildew resistant paint?

The mildew resistant paint. I would be more worried about that. Painting it otherwise with latex paint should be fine.

Ok. Well I'll look around the house to see if we just have white semi-gloss.

Err...we don't have any paint left from when we did the trim-work in the living room. Could I use the mildew resistant paint....I was planning on letting it air out for a few days. The tank is currently empty. Not even sand or water & the sump is not in the stand.

    It says,

    "Zinsser
    Perma-White
    Mold & Mildew-Proof
    -Interior Paint -
    Semi-gloss"

Zinsser is basically Kilz. Google Marine Varnish...eBay has the stuff too. It is expensive, but it is resistant to SW and will protect the wood. As far as I've read, it doesn't leach anything harmful.
