    Hi all,

I'm putting my tank in a wall so that only the front will be seen. The back of the tank has a black plastic glued to it and I need to "paint" or some how get the sides black also. Was just wondering if anyone has done this and what did you use to do it.

    Thanks for the help!

I used just a regular can of black spray paint.. Worked great.. Just be sure the surface is clean.

Very commonly done, jack102367. You can spray or brush, doesn't really matter the type of paint. Many folks use Krylon. I used a can of Rustoleum b/c it was inexpensive. The descriptors "flat or gloss" don't make a difference, since you're viewing it from "the other side."

    And welcome to 3reef! :)

    Welcome to 3reef!

I agree with above posters. Anything on the outisde, Krylon fusion on the inside. I've found that taking some fine grit sandpaper and roughing up the entire surface will help the paint bond better and reduce chipping/flaking.

    Thanks for all your replies......

Reefmonkey, I can paint the inside of the tank with Krylon fusion and it won't hurt the system?

I would paint the outside, it's not worth risking any chips coming off.

Yes. I and many others have used it for all types of things inside our reef tanks. Krylon fusion is totally reef safe once it cures. (24-48 hours) But for what you're doing I'd paint the outside and call it good.:)

The paint will eventually chip off. I would advise against using it in the tank, but in certain circumstances people do and it is said to be harmless once cured. I've seen black painted overflows chipping after a few months.
