make sure you get led free paint and crylic latex, a lat of the spray can paint and oil base paints have cemicals the leaks in your tank bia salt creep and water splashes and if you have corals you will damage them so my best bet will be acrylic latex make sure in not flat you have to get semy gloss or gloss becuse flat has to many porse.... i have read abut this and i have personal expiriens, in a fresh water tank i had everything die in a month or two and i did not know what was going on.i had everything prefect ontill a freind toll me to check the paint and there it was, LED i kill 26 biscus that day at $45.00 dollar a pop i was pist for my stupidity.....

+1 on the crylic latex. I think your best bet for the inhabitants of the tank would be no paint at all but if paint is aesthetically necessary than make sure to research and find the safest paint possible (sorry, I don't really know what that might be)

Use a water sealer on the inside. If you just paint the outside of the hood, it will minimize the chances of contamination.
