I am getting conflicting opinions on this is it ok or not? I have done it in the past with good results. If it is bad why? I am using Krylon fusion like I did for the tank background ( painted on the back of the tank not in it) if its fully cured why would it be bad?

Krylon Fusion is tank safe once it cures even under water.

i wouldn't trust anything painted to enter my tank, but that's just me. another solution would be to use black pvc...try this link.

I have had inverts grow on pvc painted with Vinyl spray paint from the automotive parts store and Krylon Fusion. It is important to "break the shine" of the PVC. I use PVC cleaner. Just rub it all over the pipe, let dry then paint with the spray. Allow it to dry for at least a week. I put mine in a vent of my house so that it has constant air flow. Only after there is NO smell do I then use in my tanks.
