I have a a 29 gallon aquarium which has been running for 7 months, Only livestock at the moment is just the cuc. I am going to be building a new aqurium stand. To match, I want to paint the tank frame white.

Is there a way I could paint the plastic frame without messing up the tank?

...want to use spray paint so you wont see brush strokes. But I will need to remove the top plastic trim/frame in order to paint (so as to prevent fumes in the house as well as my aquarium). I was wondering if I could remove the silicone from the top frame and paint. Once dry I would re-silicone the frame to the tank...

It would probably only be removed for a few hours while the paint dries.

you will never be able to get the trim off with out the tank crashing. the trim holds it all together.

That's what I was afraid of. :-/ :( I've seen people take the era,e off the tank before they put water in it. But with water alredybin...I think the glass might be pushing outward on the frame (not noticeable, but normal).

I wonder if there would be some way I could do this without removing the frame?...maybe tape off the top opening?

Its very risky but possible. I would be afraid of the fumes harming the tank inhabitants. They do make spray latex now and this would be your best bet.The draw back would be it won't be as durable.

    Krylon: H2O Latex
Let me know if your thinking of doing this. I have been painting for 27 years and could walk you through it.:)

What about the bottom trim? Don't you need to paint it as well?
