Was wondering what type of paint to paint a tank with?

I've read "rustoleum." But was wondering flat black, gloss, satin? Does it matter?

Also, I'll probably be painting a tank that is already up and running with a full on reef. Is it safe to paint like this as long as I cover the top?

    Thanks!

i used indoor latex. it does not matter if its flat or gloss it will look the same through the glass. and i would think it would be ok to do with the tank running but i would not spray it or use oil base paint only water based. roll it or brush it.

As far as painting the running tank, make sure you ventilate WELL. The fumes alone can wipe the tank out. Please be extremely careful with this, I had my 150g taken down to "death in a box" because of incompetant contractors and their painting.

What I did was I bought some static window tint from Wal-mart for $14. It took about 5 minutes to put on. I will post a picture later on. It looks a lot better then painting IMO

Hmmmm....I might try this route, and won't ruin the tank either!
    Thanks and +K!

Just finished doing what you suggested. $15 later and BAM! So much better, easier, and safer than painting. My only concern is the "soap water" that was used and if any made it inside the tank and how to be sure it's gone. Here's a pic of mine....but the pic doesn't do it justice.

Sweet! You will be able to see through it now but once you put your lights on your tank it will be jet black.

cool, can't wait....any thoughts on the soap solution that dripped through the hole onto the inside wall? Just wipe it clean with water several times? There was hardly any soap in the solution, but I know the tiniest residue or bit inside can be very detrimental....

I would imagine if you did a white vinegar wipe down that should be fine. I just used a spray bottle with water to put it on.
