Painting

Before I move my 120 gal into place I have to paint the room it will be in, and eventually the rest of the house.

I plan on painting the tank room first then start the tank preparations and start the cycling process. After I do this I will most probably proceed to paint the rest of the home.

Does the smell of fresh paint affect a fish tank (new or established)?

I do not think so...especially latex based paints. Also, if you are really worried about it, you can get latex paint that is almost odorless...it is even safe for pregnant women to use. Not sure who makes it...but I am sure they have it at the home depot. For what it is worth I painted part of my house using regular old latex paint and it had no ill effects on my fish.

 

you should probably consider using a high gloss paint around the fish tank and pumps/sumps.. This will help prevent any moisture or salt creep from getting absorbed in wood or drywall.. I am thinking of the paint that would be used in a bathroom or above a shower..

Thanks all. Maybe I'll paint in about 10 years.......setting up my tank is much more important.

well....the room has been painted, looks great! I guess my wife was right after all..... I hate when that happens :

I moved some things around in order to make the tank (120 g) the main event. I can't wait to start this project. I am heeding Matt's advice "Go slow, let it grow" since I have to go out of town in 3 weeks for a bit. I will start setting everything up upon my return.

I'll most probably have alot of questions but this forum is exceptional when it comes to patience and sound advice.
