I really like the look of these fish, but if I get more than one I will be overstocking my tank. I'm just curious one would be okay by himself?

I've heard such conflicting views from different people, fish stores and websites. I've been told that they aren't schooling fish, but do hang out together and a lone one would do fine. I've also heard that they school and should not be kept in groups less than three. And I've also been told that they need to be kept in pairs because if two pair off in a group of three, the pair will attack the other cardinal.

I would any input from you guys!

I have kept mine singly for several years now. No problems what so ever.

I too have a single pajama, I started with a school but this one is the only one that survived. I have had him now by himself for 5 yrs. No issues. He does hide in the rock during the day and only comes out at night though.

I had a school of them but I was left with 3, of those 3 two became a mated pair and one just hangs by himself in the other side of the tank.

I've got a single PJ as well. Great fish that is super mellow. Took him a while to finally accept pellets but he's on the program now and eats everything offered.

I wouldn't hesitate to add just a single fish.

Awesome, glad to hear that they can do great by themselves. How did you guys switch yours onto pellets?
