im setteing up a 75 gall. reef tank an am trying to decide which system to use so skimmer or no skimmer.

 

Skimmer in my opinion. Nothing says you need to run it all the time but the amount of crap skimmers pull is crazy.

 

that is what i have seen if i run a skimmer i was going to put it on a timer for six hours a day.

 

personally I run mine 24x7 but feed twice a day heavy. I dump mine every 3 days or so and damn it is thick green and stinky.

Tank is mainly a fowler with a little character.

 

I will tell you this. I have been to Leng's facility and was not impressed with the testing methods nor his aquariums. Acro's were doing horrible. He then claimed that carbon kills corals. I told him he was nuts in front of the entire club.

If it were me, I would run that skimmer full time.

I just emptied my skimmer and the liquid in the cup was so brown it was almost black and had the aroma of what I can only describe as Hot Death. So I am on the skimmer bandwagon.

 

ok i will go with a skimmer any suggestions on a decent skimmer that wont break the bank

 

well is it going to be in-sump, hangon, or external to sump.

For my 135 I went with sca-302 which is rated 180. It was cheap and does a great job. The only other ones I see they have are a 150 or 65gal rated so you could go with the 150 rated.

you may be able to find some cheaper bubble magus also
