    My suggestion is break the bank. I'm a huge skimmer fan and would not skimp on this more than anything. The good thing is there are a lot of very good skimmers these days that are n't really that expensive. Check out the reef octopus line.
    Can you over skim? Sure.. only you will know your tank that well.

    +1 Here I just upgraded mine. I was running a Berlin Turbo for 12 years prior and the Reef Octopus does one heck of a job. Well worth the cash.
