    I think they'd work the same. Not sure which is finer, but the sock is pretty fine.

    Watcha talkin' about Cindy? The sand transfer? That is if you are switching tanks and going to a different sand. By keeping some of the old sand, it should help prevent a big algae bloom. If you use all new sand, especially dry (not live) sand, you may cause your tank to cycle again. The hose is just helpful to keep the sand separated while letting the old bacteria seed the new sand. SOmetimes people go to a totally different kind of sand and don't want to mix them. Once you do, there isn't much you can do to separate them again. :p

    Great idea! Whenever I transfer my 17 fish, or I should say before, into my QT would that be a good thing for me to do? I'm picking up a 45 gl acrylic tank tomorrow to use for the QT.
