Are panty hoes safe for reef tanks? No nasty dyes or anything?

safe probably after a good cleaning

used them for Carbon for over 3 years now (yes I change them) with no obvious signs of problems

just be aware that over time in salt water the seams can become broken
and if your not careful about this the result is Phosguard everywhere if it breaks in the filter and then gets circulated around your system

The only really bad thing that can happen is when the wife starts asking questions on why her pantyhoes keep turning up missing. Trust me, I know.

But yeah, they work great. Stretch them out a little to make sure there aren't any holes.

Glad to hear this, cuz until I got another bag today I've been using pantyhose for my Purigen! :D

I also have it stretched over the overflow to keep from having to fish another critter out of it.

just a heads up with the purigen
I have tried this myself and even without broken seams Purigen is so fine it can escape from nylon stockings/ pantyhose

fortunately I found out in the sink and not in my reef tank
its not an issue if it does get into the tank
but its not something you want to occur either

The best part is Steve can now buy his panty hose and when the girl at the checkout counter looks at him funny he can just say its for his fish tank.;D

    LOL

So far it's worked out fine. I'm replacing it with the new bag I bought tomorrow.
