Hello errybody:) so I would really like to upgrade the lighting on my biocube to allow for sps. I don't want to have to take off the hood because I'd lose that "sleek" look. My question is this: could I cut a 15"x15" hole in the hood and hang a par30 a foot or so above it? Thanks.:D

how many threads you gonna create here bro? We understand you want sps with leds, your last thread told us. with the par 30 your gonna want it closer than a foot, and youll need prolly 3 of em to light it.

Sorry man, the other thread was about retrofitting the biocube with a couple ecoxotic fixtures. So you think it would take 3 of them to get enough light for sps?

    In a word: no.
Placing It that close to the water will greatly inhibit spread and you will most likely need 2 or 3 to adequately light the tabk. On top of that, you may end up frying corals having them that close to the water.
Remove the hood if you want better lighting, we've been over this already.
I wouldn't do it, even if you had 3...

If you wanna keep the hood, your only real option is to put 5-7 stunner strips in the hood with inline dimmers.

calm down hes just trying to find out more info....usually when someone reads 37 replies to a basic question they assume it has been answered and skip past it by starting a new thread hes resparking more interest from other people

i dont know if i would recommend cutting a hole in the hood...your best selling the hood and building a canopy for the tank if you want to make it still look sleek

You could make the biocube rimless. Then it would look sleek without the hood.
