Par30 vs. Par38

yeah both are great lights and its just unbelievable how simple they are just screw em right into a desk lamp and your set

 

whats a heat sink, what does it do, and im guessing i need to buy one? LOL

 

the heat sink is buildt in. see the "fins" on the outside of the build? thats how the bulb dissipates heat. keep it open and not covered and there wont be a problem. if they get covered up it can overheat the bulb and decrease the life of the bulb or worse.

 

no you dont need to buy one. The metal fins around the bulb int he picture aka the dome looking part of the bulb thats all metal that works as a heatsink to dissipate heat away from the bulb. If your cover that with a fixture that has a dome it traps in heat and can cause the bulb life to shorten

 

i dont plan on covering it. is there a way to have it hanging from the ceiling instead of on a clip?

 

you could get a lamp that hangs from the fixture but then it would have to have the cord to the outlet so that would be a hassle

 

darn i really liked the look of it hanging lol oh well who cares im getting a new LED;D8);D8)

 

yeah just a clip on lamp or a taller one will do the trick

 

A par30 over my biocube was exactly what I did and I must say I couldn't be more pleased. I would defeinately recommend it.

so far i got a bunch of zoas and palys,ricordeas, blastos, frogspawn, and 3 types of montipora. All thriving.

 

did you keep any more light demanding sps under that?
