I have recently had an ich infection thats wiped out half my live stock, it was introduced on a fish i bought from the aquarium. after this happened i decided it was a good idea to get everything running exactly how i wanted it before adding anything extra.

upon adding a new led light to the sump i noticed these 'bugs' crawling around. im a little concerned as they look like something crossed between a termite and a praying mantis.

Please someone help me identify these things as i have no idea as to what they are and if they're harmful to my aquarium!!!

    Please see attached images below

Amphipods! Their good for your tank. They eat up detritus and algae, stir up the top layers of sediment, and provide food for some fish and coral.

Oh ye, their not parasites and their probably of the amphipod suborder "Gammaridea" if you want to research them.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Ahh, I see we have a couple other members of the Do not like Amphipods club.

I think it's safe to say that Hunter and Jerry as well as myself are members.

If a pod is too big for my fish to eat, than it's evil.

Interesting, I haven't had that experience yet; Granted, my population went on a steep decline over the past several months. The ones I do have gather any food that hits the rock/sand.
