    It's 48x36x27.

Thanks for the congrats, everyone. It seems like a daunting task because I need to do so much before its ready. I've never plumbed a tank from scratch. I should go ahead and get my rock, powerheads, heater and salt so I can start curing my rock while I do plumbing and electrical. So much to do

Took advantage of a local hardware store's tax free weekend today and picked up some plumbing materials/tools.

10' of 1" ID line, 4 ball valves (threaded), 4 unions (valves and unions for maintenance sake), a 90 degree "Y" and 2 45's to split the drain into the skimmer section between both socks, some 90s, PVC primer/cement, trusty Teflon tape and a PVC cutter (good for a bit over 2"). I know I'll be going back to get things I either got wrong or forgot entirely but this will get me started.

There were some bulkheads (pictured below) that I'd like to use for the 3 drains into the sump. Anyone happen to know where to buy them or what they're called?

Lastly, ill need to get 4 new bulkheads for the return and drain stand pipes. I may be able to use the previous owner's drain piping. It's 2" and then goes down to 1" right before the bulkhead. Any reason I should change it? Also, one was taller than the other. Any reason for that or did I miss something?

Any pointers would be helpful. I've never plumbed a tank so anything I can get before I start cementing would be priceless :)

I wouldn't be able to be as patient as you. If this were mine, the tank would be running with rock and sand in it already. Kudos to your patience, good sir!;D

Wow a 200DD, Very nice my friend! Score!

For the stand pipes being taller than the other would be there was one main drain and another used for a back up (emergency drain) Any bulkheads you need you can get at any online fish store ie) BRS / MARINE DEPOT / AQUACAVE..

Hmmm....I'm not sure I want to keep it that way. I don't see any reason not to drain equally on both sides. Not to mention, I have no idea what that will do with sound or DT water levels. I think I'd prefer the overflows to drain equally.

Daniel, luckily this isn't my first tank. I've watched people who rush their builds and it usually ends in some kind of heartache or disaster. I would rather be methodical.

Oh the possibilities... so wish I had a 3' front to back tank... Sorry had to go wipe the drool lol

Actually being 2 separate overflow boxes the height doesn't have to be the same for them to still function the same the only difference is that the water in the one overflow box will be slightly higher but they will both drain. The mere fact that there are 2 drains is the back up in itself, but 1 will not do all the draining and if it gets clogged the 2nd will kick in like it would if there was 1 box and they were 2 different heights..... ;)

If I'm going to ditch the Mag9.5 pumps, now is the time. I would want to go external (the sump is already plumbed for it anyway). I would also want to ditch the 2 pump setup and go with one and simply plumb it to both returns.

I know JT recommended the Reeflo which I really like. I was looking at http://www.bulkreefs...00-2600gph.html

One side return will have about 4 ft. of overhead with no 90s. Maybe 2 45's depending on how the pump lines up. The other side will have a tee, and at least one 90. That side would also have ~2 ft. of lateral plumbing that the other side doesn't have. That gives the return pump ~5-6 vertical feet and 2-2.5 horizontal feet to overcome. Would the Snapper/Dart hybrid be a good choice?

Bulkhead ABS Slip x Thread (Slip on the Flange/Head side) - Bulk Reef Supply
Is this the type of bulkhead I should be using (Slip x Thread) or should I go for a different type/style?

Also, 1" (400psi / thicker tubing) would require which size bulkhead?

I'm wishing I had brought my notepad with me now. I really wanted to get the remainder of this plumbing stuff ordered today.

I see what you're saying. Sort of a primary and secondary drain. This may be something to do with the sump design. It has one drain into the refugium and 2 into the skimmer section (after refugium). My guess is he wanted as much flowing into the refugium as possible with the remainder bypassing it only to keep up with the flow.

    Nice Tank!

Maybe it's just me, but it seems the sump would take on a lot of water in a power out- no?

Keep up your excellent planning, etc. It's going to be really nice one day soon I'm sure.
