Big newb here with lighting.Alright well im about to get an fixture that has 4x65 watt/ 10k white with lunar lights. The depth of my aquarium is 18", I have a 2" sandbed, so pretty much it is 16". Anyways do you think thats pretty good amount of light for a beginner?

How long do you plan to be a beginner? :)

I would go T5 and not have to worry about upgrading later, a low-mid end T5 fixture will be cheaper than having to ditch a PC fixture in 6 months or a year and buy a better light.

    My 2c ;D

I've fooled around with pc's the entire time i've been in the hobby....get T5's...pc's will work...but there is always that limit as to what kind of corals you can keep...and like damsels said..you can get T5's for the same price if not cheaper

Alright thank you all! Im not going to keep corals that need some hard core light. Im just planning on keeping softies, zoas,Bc. And I own a 75 gallon witch i will be upgrading by next year :). Im very close to buying this fixture cause im getting a good price on it imo. But will this lighting be good enough for those corals?

I used to have PC lighting and I did have a frogspawn that did well but it was towards the top of the tank. I had PC lighting for only a couple of months cuz it came with the tank and then I went with T5s and they are sooo much better. Depending on how much you are spending you might just be better going with the T5s to begin with.

I have 2 light fixtures for my tank - one is PC (odyssea), and one is T5. HUGE difference in light output, same price. My advice - do some price shopping and get the T5!
