do not cycle using live fish or inverts (hippie ethical and or moral arguments aside.....though i strongly believe in them) i cycled using live rock and even then i killed off some stuff off. +1 on using table shrimp and letting it decompose be patient people!

Check your local boards someone is building Sumps on there. Every town seems to have someone doing it.

Please do some major research on peacock mantis. As said earlier you REALLY need to know about these guys as there are a lot of special care that goes along with it. You got your answer about cycling with one, so i wont beat a dead horse.........but it is a VERY bad idea.

Remember the size of a peacock. While most of hte ones available are 3-4inches, they can get to 12" long. I had Bob for years and she was about 11" when she died.

Unless you have full viewing access to your sump, peacock will not be a good fit. They are very intereactive with their humans and will sit and watch you all the time.

Agreed...peacocks are super cool, and will watch you at least as much as you watch them.

As for cycling, this is how we do it:

if it doesnt work please cut and paste. it looks awesome. Natural settings always seem to look much cooler than in tanks. no offence you guys!
in the main tank i hoe to keep angler/scorps....
........and very expensive rare dwarf black clownfish about $1200 each
    jkjkjk :)

So the main tank and the sump would be completely visible, but the sump very close to the ground.

Which order would you put the sections of the sump.
    this is what i think
    Main tank>filter sock>30 gallon fuge>bubble trap>skimmer>return pump
    ????
    thanks guys

You really need to research. Without hours of reading and understanding you will never get even 1/100th the life that tank has. If you want to invest this kind of money in the hobby you need to expect to spend even more on time to research. Sorry to be so unhelpful with your questions, but I'm more interested in being helpful with your success.

while researching peacocks please do some research on anglers. They will put anything in their mouth that the can, including fish bigger then them.

one good place to look is to go to incognito threads. She has so much knowlendge on these topics and would be very helpful in your planning

Generally speaking, anglers can, and will eat prey that is nearly twice as large as they are. A leaf fish in an angler tank will end up being toast...they're laterally compressed and their shape makes them quite "slurpable".

Additionally, realize that leaf scorps are very tuff to wean off live food, so you may need to plan on feeding it "live for life" (guppies/ghost shrimp). Fortunately, they seem to train easily to eat from a small net, so target feeding them isn't too bad if it comes to that:

Perhaps I'm just easily amused, but this cracked me up.
