Did you really know-know! Did you spend time wondering if you would know and then when it really was time, it was like a light going off? People always say "you'll know", but we're on the hairy edge and I don't want to cross that line. We have pretty much dedicated our lives to her to keep her in the condition she has been in up until now. But now there's the doubt if we are doing too much and if it's giving her enough. Arthritis is the enemy.

Been there done that - tough descision for sure they are family members. But you must do what's best for your pet if they are suffering and no longer happy there's only one choice :(

It all comes down to quality of life. You will know. It was when we realized we were keeping our pet alive for us not them.

But what's happy? She's a stubborn ole dog. Pain does not slow her down like it should, so we're afraid we'll miss "the time".

She was suppose to die two years ago. Kidney failure, heart failure and lung cancer. We've grieved her a million times over the past couple of years as things happened we didn't think she'd recoup from. Makes it hard to assess it yet again. But something feels like it's about to be or IS different. I don't know which it is.

We thought she had good quality, then I read something on a website made by people who come to your home to put down your pets. That's the route we're going. Everything we had been grading her on doesn't necessarily mean anything according to them. Now I'm like, then what's it based on.

Going to give her a little taste of an actual stronger pain med instead of arthritis pain meds.

She's had too many happy times for it to be for us only. But I smell something in the air and I don't know if it's time or it's about to be.

I think you are seeing signs of her suffering even if it is only subconsciously. I think this is the point where "you just know". I feel your pain having been there several times with pets.

Several Times!!! I won't be going through this ever again. Our 14 year old Schnauzer just dropped and died at our feet in minutes. I didn't realize at first what a gift that was. This one still acts like a puppy when she is laying down. She's still loving all the things she loved (modified of course).... there's just something.

Oh Oh. That's two nights she hasn't been so crazy about her food. Looked at it like she wasn't going to eat it at first. That's not a good sign.

Beagle. 18. And now she's snuffling around the kitchen to see if there are any tasty carnitas crumbs.
