I'm going to tuck that away and read it later. I recognize the name Rainbow Bridge and I'm low on contacts because of this week! No more tears allowed!!!

Beautiful dog Vinny. I'm so sorry you recently went through that pain. I'm sure you'll meet again and cross that bridge together.

Had a scare last night. She tripped over the neighbors sprinkler head and went down pretty hard. Then all throughout the night she panted.... still this morning. Oh-Oh. That's not something we'd let her do for more than a day or so. But it seems it was her heating blanket making her hot. There wasn't as many blankets between her and the pad as there usually is. Now she's downstairs and is fine. Whew for now.

Aw, Vinnie...sorry for your loss. I know what you mean about something taking a perfectly good dog. If not for Chance's hips, she'd be almost as spunky as ever.

I read the Rainbow Bridge thing at the Pet Cemetary where Emmy (our Schnauzer) was cremated. It's very touching, and even now, I tear-up (I have plenty of contacts)...

I am so very sorry that you guys are having to go through this. This is definately the hardest part of owning an animal that I can think of. Non-pet people do not realize that they are our children. Within 1 year of each other I had to put down a cat and 2 pugs (this was several years ago). Unfortunately I do not think you really ever know for sure when you are making the decision. However you do have to trust your vet and your heart.

Oscar, my avatar picture was rescued when he was older and I only had him for a few years. He first started to develop seizures really bad (the first one lasted several hours and they were talking if it didnt stop soon I would have to put him down there) Got him under control with meds (which is expensive for dogs as you have to do blood tests etc) and he was doing ok. Then one day, we were walking on our walk and he just collapsed and went limp. He was diagnosed with a collapsing trachea/pallete (some other name, cant remember). We monitored him and kept him quite as much as possible, however they continued. So the vet recommended a surgery that was costly and risky to do. He warned me that when he got in there he might have to put him down again during the surgery. I had to sign a paper that he could be euthanized in case it was decided. It was a major surgery, one i wish i never did. He had adnoids, tonsels, pallete removed/repaired and some other things. That dog SUFFERED for 3 weeks recovering for that surgery. I had him in hte emergency clinic several times for pain control. He finally got over the surgery and about 2 months later, he collapsed again, and just started throwing up, crying and seizing. At that point i knew it was time and he went very peacefully in my arms at the clinic.

The cat, was related to my other pug in the fact that Otis attacked the cat. Otis also developed seizure right around the time of all this going on with Oscar, however his seizures where much more violent and mean. The cat walked past Otis one day and he just lunged and attacked the cat. I rushed her to the vet and by the time I got there she was dying so I just put her out of her misery. Otis, also went to the vet the next day and was discussed with the vet. Apparently some dogs get very violent and bite etc when they seize. So he increased his drugs. Worked for couple months, but unfortunately it happened again, however he started biting Curt and other people. You could see that his eyes were not right. I couldnt risk him biting anybody else and hurting somebody so i had to put him down (which was the HARDEST one because even though he had all his shots he had to go into quarantene for 10 days to monitor for rabies) after the hold i had to go make the decision yet again! This one was the toughest on me for some reason

I will be thinking of you all.............she looks like an awesome dog. Remember all the good times you have with her and give her lots and lots of treats and whatever she wants right now

Oh, the little be-yatch is spoiled ROTTEN now...back when it looked like she was dying of congestive heart failure, we pretty much let her have/do anything. We created a monster...LOL

The big problem is she's deaf as a stone, so you can't use verbal commands/corrections. We literally have to tap her on the head and use hand signals...doggie sign language.

You win and your prize sucks. I don't even know what to say.

Everyone at work knows how I hurt for this dog and are very supportive. One time, one of the docs said something about "just a dog, put it down" something like that and not directly to me. Ohhhh I was pissed. He's from India and never owned a pet. I know he doesn't get it, but I went off. I told everyone that day very loudly they did NOT have to understand what I felt for my dog. All they had to understand was that I was loosing one of the most important things in my life. And the pain of THAT they had to respect.
