I came home the other day and found the peppermint shrimp digging a frag of blasto's mouth which isnt uncommon during feeding and such but he was just doing it out of no where. I swatted him away. And later he was back at it. The next day i caught him on it again. The blasto is fully closed up and looks terrible.

Could be the blastos pooping and the shrimps attracted to the scent :) have you tried spot feeding the shrimp? I so mine. Nice chunk of sum sum will keep it happy for a couple days.

I have not tried spot feeding. He usually just goes crazy during feeding time and grabs some mysis or prawn eggs. Doesnt look like the blasto is going to make it now though.

Peppermints are bad about attacking LPS at times.

I have had bad luck with LPS and soft corals being kept with peppermint shrimp. I wouldnt be surprised if the blasto ends up as dinner.

That's strange because I've been keeping both for 2+yrs and have never encountered any issues. Maybe because I've always spot fed my shrimp?? Who knows right?

A friend of mine has 6 peppermints in his 90 gallon reef with almost no problems. They will occasionally turn on his frogspawn but only if they dont have anything else to eat. Some seem to have a taste for soft corals and LPS no matter what you do. Thats how mine were. Either way, I dont want to risk it again. Keeping them fat and happy by target feeding is the only real way to keep them from eating your corals. But, that wont always work in my experience.

I got rid of my 3 peps because they were doing the same thing to my fungias. I spot fed my shrimp everytime I fed the lps and elephant ear but they never seem to be satisfied, made the ol water bottle trap and caught all three in a matter of minutes. Sold them cheap.

Well I think its time for him to go in the 90 since he doesn't do anything anyways. Really mad he may have killed it. He attacks the frogspawn at feeding time which has never been a problem.
