Yesterday I bought two peppermint shrimp for the first beings to live in my tank. The tank has been at steady water params for the last week or so and I tested them yesterday before I put the little guys in there and everything looked great. Now this morning I wake up and one of them is dead. The other is fine and doing his shrimp activities, but I am trying to figure out what could have killed the other guy. The water params this morning are normal other than the pH is a little lower than yesterday its at 8.1. My Nitrates are elevated too now, but I am assuming that is because of the one shrimps carcass in there. Water temp is 78 degrees. I am going to get a copper testing kit to make sure thats not the problem, but do Peppermint Shrimp sometimes just die? or are they pretty hardy?

    Thanks everyone.

It could have been anything to include a molted shell. Are you sure its dead? Sometimes the shrimps molt they're skin and it appears to be dead. Also, Pepper's are known to hide alot. I bought 3 a week ago and thought that my Eng. Goby ate them all b/c I didnt see them all week. I decided to get out a flash light and shine and see all 3 of them.

its upside down and its legs are curled up. I just got them yesterday and I aclimated them by letting the bag float for 15 mins adding a cup of tank water letting it sit for 5 mins adding another cup of tank water and so on for another 15 mins. netted them out of the bag and then released them in the tank. the other one seems fine, but this guy seems dead.

Sounds like its dead. If you have a CUC, you can leave it in. If not, take it out.

The shrimp are the only and the first things in the tank.
