So for a few weeks at least I had a peppermint shrimp in my 12 gallon bio cube. I also have a cleaner shrimp in the tank. Yesterday the peppermint was doing fine and was eating. It looked like the cleaner shrimp was picking on it though.

Could my cleaner shrimp have killed the peppermint? I checked my water parameters today after finding the dead shrimp and they are:

    Ammonia 0
    Nitrate 0
    pH 8.0
    Calcium 460
Phosphate 0.25 (maybe 0, hard to read)
    kH 7
    Salinity 1.025

Did something else cause the shrimps death? I got it for aiptasia control and it did quick work of that but it still was eating food I was putting into the tank.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
In that small of a tank I would not be surprised if the cleaner killed the peppermint during a molt.

And are you sure you are not seeing a peppermint molt.

I'm positive it wasn't a molt. I removed it with a net to check and it was the whole shrimp. I've had the cleaner molt a few times and I thought it was dead but quickly realized what it was. I guess it'll be a one shrimp tank.

Cleaners can be really bad ass if another shrimp is in their territory.

If the aiptasia are gone then it actually seems like good timing.

Peppermints have eaten my corals and anemones and were difficult to catch.

Ok then, I'll blame the cleaner shrimp. I liked the diversity in the tank but I guess I went for too much diversity. All that's left now is a CUC, a firefish, and a cleaner shrimp. I'm guessing none of them will attack each other.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm less worried now. It sucks I set up a situation where an animal died but now I've learned and won't do it again.
