On the starving after they are wiped out.....all I've read is that they are scavengers and that is sometimes why they don't work well for the aptaisia sometimes. Now that they are gone and I am feeding my gobie again, the peppermint shrimp comes out the minute he gets a whiff of the brine shrimp and will grab anything he can. I did a lot of research and was worried about him starving when he completedd his task and found that to be unfounded. That is true with the bergia nudibranch though as the aptasia is there sole food source.

    missing shrimp :(

I just bought two of these guys the other day. At first they were running all over happy and eating up all the mess in the tank. The next morning I couldn't find either, I did find one empty exoskeleton. Today I found one of the shrimp hiding in a rock, but happily eating away. The other one is still missing. I'm hoping that she shows up some where and is just hiding and hasn't been eaten by someone else...:-/

I read something the other day that there are two types of peppermint shrimp generally sold in stores, ones from California and one from the Caribbean. Supposedly the Caribbean ones are the only ones that eat aiptasia... Or so the article said.

I bought two shrimp to go after a half-dozen aipastia that had shown up on a rock. They disappeared after half a day and I haven't seen either of them since. So, today I injected concentrated lemon juice into the six aipastia that I could find.

Postscript on the lemon juice: It seems to have worked great! I used a hypodermic to inject about 6 aipastia, and they shriveled up and died. No sign of them today.

Congrats on the success. I have been having an extremely hard time finding them in Triinidad. Both on the reefs and in LFS. No one has em. My tanks are being over run by these pests. If I could, I'd buy a bunch of em due to the amount of aiptasia nems I have.

Can you get a copperband butterfly, if even temporarily? They will destroy aiptasia like no ones business ;)
