OK...is this fish a Perculla or Ocellaris. I bought them from the LFS...someone traded them in. They are a good size mated pair a good 2.5" female and 2" male. I dont want to bias the poll, so I am not going to say yet what I was told they were.

Do you mean true or false perc? A false perc is an occelaris.

I'm going against the grain and voting false perc (occelaris). Just not enough black to be true percs.

and when i feed them heavy heavy, the percs almost get a full blackish orange color..or when i feed them a good piece of meat or oysters for a while they get really really dark almost black..ive cut back since ive been so busy with school since it started back up

heres another pic..count the dorsal fin..theres 10 of them,,this is an almost for sure fact its a perc

here you can see the fin starting to turn black

There is really no definitive way to distinguish. The most accurate it to count the dorsal spines, but an oc an perc, in some cases can have 10. I think I counted 9, which would make it a perc, but I am having trouble makeing some out from the pic  Also the eye seems to have a bit more orange, but could be the photo. I would guess perc, but very close.
