Well its about time you got a thread started about your tank that doesn't have to do entirely with algae and inverts! ;)
Your kenya tree coral doesn't really look like kenya, at least IMO. Looks more like Carnation Tree, Devil's Hand, or maybe even an acropora. Hard to tell. But the ends of the branches look awful blunt.
    Nice pics though dude! K+

    (And others related questions)

I will get another pic of it. It is really slimy. It is not 'hard' but not sure what you mean by soft... maybe a disgusting weenie feeling? Ton o slime.

The 'mother' to this tree had a tall, thick trunk with all the branches at the top. This piece is one of those branches. It was tan and ugly in his tank with no actinic lights. It is green and pretty in my tank with actinic lights.

It didn't like my toothpick, not long enough. I'm going to go get a drink tonight, clean my swordpick (good idea mission), and re stick it to the substrate. Poor little thing. Pic will follow that.

Yeah, I know, right?! Felt like my original threads were all bumbling along trying to find my way. Now that I added coral (go slow finally something to grow;)) I want to have a thread that follows the tank more than my individual problems to figure out ;D

Can you imagine if the first, however many, pages were all just on my tank being cleaned by the CuC? OK OK, I thought about it but decided I couldn't change the name of that thread ;D;D

I will for sure! And thanks.

Nice pics and congrats on your new thread!!! About time dude......And the pics are cool. I agree with all others, the Kenya tree looks nothing like a Kenya tree. Looks like finger leather to me.

I ordered three additional powerheads from yodaslo on ebay. They have great prices.

I ordered additional: TWO Koralia 1's and ONE Koralia Nano (for secret hiding flow).

I also ordered some fire fern from John at reefcleaners.org. This calcifies and can go in the Display Tank. I'm going to put it on a ledge behind my rock structure (aka wall) so that eventually it will grow up and fan out behind it. Should be neat.

Will post pics once I install these things!

And my last Chiton died  I'm wondering if they eat a very specific algae that I no longer have... I have had no invert deaths to concern me then both my chitons die within a month of each other... all my other snails are doing great (other than the Ceriths I lost to hermits).

    Macro Algae update with PICS

I got my Fire Fern and Flame Algae in and glued down.

I glued the Fire Fern perpendicular to a little ledge behind my structure. The idea is it will eventually grow up behind my structure. So you'll eventually be able to see it from the front. But in the meantime, I sit over on this side a lot and it gives me a bit more to look at ;D

This one grows more flat like, so it'll kind of fan out behind the wall.

But it's an impossible shot so far for my camera. Here is a shot from the other side. The RED arrow is the Fire Fern and the YELLOW arrow is the flame algae.

In this shot you can see the flame algae, which is more bush like, through a hole in the front. I have this one on a large shell that's been sitting in the back. Yes, those are strings of super glue. They are gone now.

Suppose to be real slow growers that calcify - so the inverts will leave them alone.

I can frag the flame algae for anyone interested at some point too.

I'm going to call this a Colt Coral right now. It's mother looks just like google colt coral images.

In the meantime, I was letting it sit and connect to the floor using a sword. Then I got this bright idea of where to put it.

    Thought I'd share.

So this is my tank, quick shot, draw your attention to the right side:

    That side close up:

Angle shot as I wrap around the tank:

And full on side shot, I sit right here quite often.

    And a little closer.

I'm hoping it will grow up out of this giant hole in a neat way. I plan on taking the sword out in a week. It gets direct light, but it's deep. We'll see what happens.

    Anemone eating Damsel

I have another thread where we're trying to identify this anemone. So far, not any real success, but I've been calling it a Rose Anemone.

    Here is the thread.

    http://www.3reef.com/forums/id/please-help-me-id-anemone-52639.html

So I stumbled across this video I took a while back. I cycled with 2 damsels that survived. A few months later I lost power for 60 hours due to Hurricane Ike. The damsels died 2 days or so after I got power back.

So I decided to give them to my anemones. I have three and between them they ate about 30% of the damsels (CuC the rest). This is a video of that:

    NEAT!

And if anyone knows how to make that playable without opening up photobucket, please let me know.

Updated pics on new Macro Algaes

I trimmed the flame algae so it wasn't leaning today. Took some pics too!

This is the flame algae after its trim. It's in the back but easy to see through one of my holes.

Here's a better shot of the fire fern and flame algae together

And to show perspective, I turned off a power head for this shot

And here's a neat one of the fire fern peaking up over the top if you look kind of at an angle. Can see my anemone there too.

Here is an updated pic of my Colt - more open here.

And updated GSP that's starting to spread
