picked up a green clown goby. i've seen these online a lot but I happened to find one in person at an LFS (on a jawfish hunt) and just thought it was a really cool fish. didn't realize just how small they really are!

Seems to me their requirements can be met in my tank, so I went with it. Seems to live mostly in the SPS and my colt. Haven't seen any nipping but hoping since I only got 1 it won't have any eggs (and therefore not nip). No idea if it's male/female.

Wife wanted me to get both (LFS had a pair) but I didn't want to deal with eggs (SPS nipping) so only got the one.

I love this fish and its personality. My favorite (that I have). I spend a lot of time hunting for it and eventually find it. Whole family loves that game, so it's a total win for us ;D

Tanks looking good P and those green clowns are awesome little fish, they won't nip anything,it thier nature to reside in corals because of thier size.I've had one for a couple years now, only bout an inch or so long.Very elusive but it's personality out weighs that part.

I forgot when I got it (somewhere back in this thread, something like mid 2009) but I recently had to replace all the clear tubes running from my AquaMedic to the tank.

Replaced the CA lines about 2 months ago and the Alk lines over the weekend. The machine quit 'pumping' and new lines resolved it. They were very squishy when I took them off.

Anyway, just an experience on how long those last. ~3-4 years IME

Had a drop in my Alk due to it. One of few param swings I've had.

Just as an update for my records (i.e. this thread).

Been battling some weird alien algae that I haven't been able to get a positive ID on. It has currently killed two SPS colonies and two others are under heavy assault, has taken my awesome green blasto colony from about 30 something heads to 2, my awesome acan lord colony from around 20 something fat beautiful heads to a nasty looking skeleton w/bits of acan flesh on it. My green trumpets are trying to hang on (my red trumpets are unaffected). Totally sucks.

Interesting my frogspawn and hammer are unaffected. My red blasto came under attack but won and keeps it at bay.

Found a 'money cowrie' might eat it and have been trying to get one imported. No luck yet.

I think the source of the issue here is windows. We have a lot. Originally we had shutters installed on the lower windows but then found the upper windows were giving the tank a lot of natural and direct sun light - all day. Made for nice shimmer but I think this is the source of my being unable to bring it under control.

For someone that normally does about 4 WC a year, this has been incredibly trying to stay on top of this w/regular cleaning and WCs. Anyway, yesterday we finally got the rest of the shutters in and installed for the upper windows. I'm hoping over the next few months I'll finally start to gain the upper hand and can get back to a more reasonable amount of WCs (and FTS!).

As an update, my green clown goby has been doing awesome. I really like that fish.

I'd honestly consider nuking the rock at that point.

I know I haven't been posting. This is more to record it in my thread for posterity.

My A/C was out for ten days a month ago - the tank hovered around 88 for the last seven days of that. I kept the lights out and all but one power head off to limit heat. So that's ten days over heated and no light. Kept the skimmer running.

Amazingly, I didn't lose anything from the heat/light - except for this mystery algae had a big die off (and my clown goby ). It started coming off the rocks and clogging the skimmer (yay).

But it isn't a complete die off and it has plenty of new growth.

So that's where I'm at. Nuking the rock is paramount to starting completely over - which I'm not going to do. It has killed every SPS colony and every LPS colony has this crap on it between flesh. The majority of my LPS colonies have gone from rather large to looking more like frags. I've tried chemiclean and ReVive dips (even tried FW dips) and nothing phases it.

My softies don't mind it at all. Colt, mushrooms, ricordia and even my nems all seem to actually be doing awesome.

The only way to get rid of it is to nuke everything and replacing the sand, etc. That's a brand new tank essentially. I had plans (and had started buying parts) for a 300. But I don't see me getting into that now. Who wants a tank you have to start over every several years - what a waste of money on coral!

On top of that, there don't seem to be any inverts that eat this. And it has covered the rock to such an extent the only CuC I have left is dwarf ceriths. Maloney/reefcleaners, sadly, hasn't been able to help. Can't even get basic snails - outside his control of course, not blaming or anything like that.

So, in a nutshell, I'm taking this tank down - probably this weekend. Going to nuke all the rock and box it in case I ever want another go. I've had it for over five years now. But with no CuC available and the need to kill all my coral to rid this algae, I don't have it in me to start all over.

Some of the equipment I'll keep for dual use purposes (auto top off, RODI etc) but a lot of it I don't see me ever using again. So I will be putting some stuff on craigslist (my lights, skimmer, unopened BRS minerals, etc).

I'm willing to sell stuff to y'all but I don't think I can box up a four foot light fixture effectively.

I'm giving away the fish and all the coral is just going to have to die, I don't see any alternate path for that. Nobody wants coral with nasty growing on the skeleton.

Oh well. It was a nice run, I learned a ton about the nature of things, and wish it wasn't over.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Wow the stuff is still hanging in there, just wow. It must be feeding off of something there is not way around that.

Sorry to hear that is has caused such destruction. :-(

I honestly can not remember what you have tried and not tried. Hate to see you loose the Anemones and Ricordia.

Sorry to hear you lost the battle. That really sucks. You had a great tank.
