Cool stuff man! I just got back in and went to check, wondering when those new corals were coming in
How do you like that firefish? I was thinking of getting a purple to complete my livestock.

 

Got in my Two Part system from bulk reef supply. I've mixed the jugs and am getting my numbers where they should be before I start daily dosing.

To get to Ca 440, dKH 12, Mg 1430 I need 337.7ml, 39.2ml, and 44.3ml respectively. I'm dumping all of that into 3 gallons of top off water that should take me a day and a half to add. None of it seemed higher than what should be raised in one day, so I think I'm fine there.

So if I get that all in by lunch tomorrow, I thought I'd test on Wednesday to give it some time. Then I'll test again this weekend to see how much I dropped and figure out my daily dose amount. Yay.

good luck brother!! I've recently started dosing with BRS 2 part stuff...let us know how it works!! So far I've only been working on my Mg, the I'll start working on Ca and Alk.

The LR is Fiji - or so the LFS said

The base rock is holey texas rock. You can buy it locally around here but I've got land out in Hondo, TX where I just pick it up off the ground. I soaked it in bleach, boiled it, then rinsed it a zillion times, then let it sit out in the sun for several days.

 

Updates. Good and bad.

My torch shrunk all up last night and started vomiting. It was fascinating. It's back to being all pretty today. So hopefully now it will be even more successful with better zoexwhatever its called. Hurray.


Two nights ago my plate coral pulled its tentacles in. Opened its mouth. Took a deep "breath" and swelled way up. Let the breath out and got kind of small and flat. Closed its mouth. Went to "sleep". By next morning, it looks great again. Not sure if this is normal or not. Keeping an eye on it just in case.


Last update is my Eagle Eye Zoas. This one is just irritating. It came on a little plug and i put that in a low - moderate flow zone. This morning, the plug was there but the Zoas were not. Ugh. Now I see them on my filter intake. I'm going to move them and glue them on the plug again here shortly.

Still dosing to bring params up. Water not evaporating as fast this week... taking longer than expected... but I'm A-OK with that.

 

Last Sunday I had these readings:

dKH 11
Ca 380
Mg 1420

I got in my BRS 2part kit and was doing the part where you dose to bring the numbers up before you daily dose. So I took the suggested amount of solution for all 3 and dumped it in T-O water (3gallons) and mixed it (each time I used it) that took me from Monday - Wednesday to add.

The target numbers were

dKH 12
Ca 440
Mg 1430

Then I used normal T-O water Thursday/Today and did my measurements today - giving it Thursday to fully mix in the tank.

Todays readings
I did Ca and Mg twice

dKH 12
Ca 400
Mg 1400

dKH is on target. Ca is up but a ways from target. Mg is down.

I don't 'think' the system consumes Ca/Mg this fast. I think it just hasn't finished mixing yet...

I will test again Sat or Sun.

 

I did test again on Sunday and my numbers were on target. I started adding daily dose to my TO Water. Will test again this weekend and see where that stands.

The EE Zoas are MIA. Can't find them. When I do, I'll glue them to a rock and drop that in a jar I have a mushroom attaching to some rock in. Vivid aquarium refunded the price of the Zoa (30) because "you shouldn't have to deal with it coming off the plug". Hurray!


My Plate kind of closed all up past couple of days with a hermit climbing around on it... got a nice looking pic of it starting to open back up.

 

Six Line Wrasse

Got the Six Line Wrasse I've been watching at the LFS today. Neat little bugger.

 

Nice! I like those wrasses. Very active. Looks like he found himself a cool little hole there already too
