I thought this might be interesting to some folks... maintained with an autodoser.

    Interesting things to see:
When Mg drops, so does Ca. When Mg is dosed back up, Ca comes back up. Without any adjustment whatsoever to the autodoser (I haven't touched it since last July).

There are fluctuations. They stay within a nice window.

Any questions about it, ask away.

Its good to see on the chart like that Peredhil

I think that when the mag is low, the calc your adding is probably not staying in solution
but when you increase the mag, the nightly calc dose sticks and your calc level goes up

You are correct sir. And that is my cue to test Mg ;)

Normally, it's clear water. If I see little specs, I test Mg and then usually turn the Mg pump on for 10 minutes (100ppm). As you can see from chart this is about every 4-6 weeks.

    OK Peredhil thank you

    next question

how much of an effect does what your dosing have on your SG?
Do you have to compensate by removing tank water and adding RODI at all?
or is the increase from 1.026 - 1.027 the total accumulated effect of the dosing you have done since commencing the nightly routine

That's an interesting question. I would say minimal.

But, I do have to pay close attention. On my refractometer, I measure 1.027 but it's on the low side of the mark. Every several months (not really sure how many) it tests on the high side of the mark. So it is raising somehow. My assumption is the Mg.

Generally, I let that be my cue to buy stuff that needs a lot of tank water for acclimation (and then I let the ATO fill 'er back up). This generally will take it back to the low side of the 27 mark.

It should be from calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and sodium (bi)carbonate. As you add those, they dissolve, but then you have 2 free ions (calcium + chlorine ions, mag + chlorine ions, sodium + carbonate ions), of which some of the sodium and chloride will end up combining to get you some good ol' sodium chloride.

+1 on this thought. Nicely lade out chart. I have to write my params all out. :(

Edit: John, do you mean as far as record keeping or dosing equipment?

Awesome thread Jason, it's been a while since I have filled one of those out. I always hated having red numbers for my mg and alkalinity....
