In Search of Perfectly Quiet Air Pump

Is there any such a thing as a perfectly quiet air pump that will drive a wood airstone 30" under?

I love this hobby. I don't mind getting my hands wet, problem solving, and hearing the trickling sound of water. Right?

But that annoying air pump sound has got to go. Forever.

I have a FW tank setup in my bedroom and I always use an air pump with an airstone to give it that bubbling effect. The pump I use is the new WHISPER air pumps. The Blue weird looking ones. We can't tell it's on at night while we're sleeping. I believe they are available for up to 100/g so can choose to see which ones fits you best.

The small brown Luft will send all the air you want at that depth can't hear a thing from it totally adjustable air control unlike any other and the single quietest and best air pump since the old days of the Silent Giants pumps .

Thanks Johny Boy -- I found what you're talking about.

Tangster, I have two brown "tetra luft" pumps running now. They are prolly, oh I don't know, maybe 15 years old??? Have no idea really.

I can hear em 20 feet away even with the TV on. Mine are the annoying pumps I'm talkin about above. :)

But, I'm sure you're right -- not doubting you. So, is there a newer model number or style? How old is yours?

Right now, I'm just curing my live rock. Gonna get things going pretty soon and neatened up. Noise is one of the objectives. This forum is cool. A big benefit being able to chat about this stuff! Here it is ... so far ... from a few minutes ago ...

Johnny Boy, you were absolutely right on the money!!

I got the whisper 40. Another great new product! Amazing what's happened since I've been out of the hobby!

The whisper 40 is significantly stronger than either of my tetra luft pumps.

The whisper 40 is so quiet, that it is quieter than the sound of the bubbles hissing as they break the surface of the water. And that is really quiet -- should give an idea of how quiet it is!

    Thanks!

I have the Whisper 60 or 100(cant remember which one) and by far, are the quietest pumps that I have ever used. Great air pumps, esp. for the money. Luna

I certainly don't doubt your word. Sounds like I have the same kind. Don't know what the difference could be? Mine are probably a lot older -- if my memory serves me well. Maybe that's it?

Yeah, you can see them on the floor, to the left, in the above picture. I have two of them. They have always been loud.

Mine might be, I don't know, maybe 10 to 15 years old??? I bought them years apart. I could be totally wrong about their age, but I know I've had one of the two for a very very long time.
