Spanking and rubbing a nose in pee does not work on cats, or dogs, at all. They do not get it - and it's mean.

With regards to the sofa, cat pee is extremely hard to get out. It probably still smells to the cat, which is why she continues to pee there. Google some remedies to get the smell of cat urine out and try some of those. Make sure their litter box is always clean. It might get to the point where you need to get a new coach.

Also, if the cat is peeing in other places around the house, take her to the vet to check for a medical problem. Sometimes it is medical and not behavioral.

I agree with the above about "punishing". 50/50 apple cider vinegar/water to remove the pee. It works for dogs at least.

Is she spayed? If not, she is re-marking her territory every time you clean it. I had a cat do this once and even after neutering him, he would still do it...so the vet came up with a plan.....move the litter box close to where she is peeing. Leave it there for a day or two. Every few days move it closer to where you want it. If she is going in the box, keep moving it back to its original place. After a few weeks she should top and be "re-trained" to go in the box. Worked for me!

The male cat was probably annoyed at you for bringing the kitten home and showed you by peeing on the sofa. Then the female kitten smelled it and followed with her contribution. Cats mark there territory and will continue to pee there as long as they smell the urine.
Are the cushions removable? Maybe you could get them re stuffed.
Blumoon had a good idea with the litter box. Good luck

To support the responses you have already received,

Most cats will do this because another cat has and it still smells and/or the litter box is not clean.
The cat needs to understand that the behavior is not acceptable. Spray the couch with a product that helps to remove the odor and have a good talk with the cat. ;D Use a water bottle to discourage the behavior, but it has to be when/before it happens, not later.

Spanking will not work with the cat or with any children you have/will have.

My wife has 9 indoor/outdoor cats... we have been where you are! You rescued the cat from a bad place, don't put it back into the same situation you saved it from.

We had the same problem with one of our inside cats. Yes we have four. If we leave the windows open o the bottom, one of our cats sits there all day and get agitated by the outdoor neighbor cats. He then starts to mark. It sucks I know, but the only way to break the cycle is find out why you girl cat is upset, then remove that stimuli (probably just your older cats urine scent) The way to keep them from remarking is to erase the scent. As time goes by their own urine smells slightly different and they feel the need to remark. Go to petsmart or another pet store and get a ENZYME BASED CLEANER. This reacts with the pheromones and takes them away enough that she may not feel the need to remark. You should then place something in front of the area to break her constant marking habit. They also have pheromone based no mark spray you can treat for a few weeks. I believe this will control the problem for you.

PS: I hope i used appropriate punctuation and spelling ;-) I DO think it matters all joking aside.

I have a male cat right now that gets ticked at us and pees on the floor....right in front of us! That is one smell that you can not get out!
I have found a recipe that helps, though i dont know if it will work in the leather....
wash it with 50/50 white vineger and water. let it dry Then apply some type of oxy-cleaner with a little bit of dawn (I never did this part with dawn) and let it dry. then apply baking soda and work that in.......
I know that the vinegar part of it works.....

I have been told that once a cat starts marking it doesnt stop as the smell is there and it draws them to it.....I know for a fact it does draw 3 dumb terriers to that spot!

Seriously though, you do need to take the cat to the vet as it could have a urinary tract infection, or even FUS (feline urological syndrome) that something that a pill and or change of diet can fix!

Good luck, i feel your pain!
