I was wondering if I purchase water from a LFS that has a lot of aiptasia, majano, and GBA in their frag tanks, fish tanks, and DT tanks if I purchase water from them will I be adding these pests to my tank?

One LFS went out of business, another is now only open 4 days a week, and the third is very dirty and not well taken care for. So if I need to buy water I either have to wait on my main LFS to open or goto this sketchy store.

    Thoughts or comments?

I've been getting more on the end of mixing my own water, but I won't be buying a RODI unit until I move out of my dorm

I'd always err on the side of caution! but doesn't one of them just have RODI water waiting that isn't part of their system?

If they're selling water out of their system/tanks, don't buy it. Aiptasia would be the least of your worries. Only buy from places that are selling from an RO or RO/DI system.

..yup, pretty sure if they are selling water its not from their system water..but, if its that dirty of a place...I'd wait for your trusted supply to be available.

Yeah, I meant to add that regardless of how clean the place is, if you're buying non-saltwater, test the TDS. If you're buying saltwater, test the ammonia & nitrates. Before we got new filters for our RO/DI, we were buying water and found that it had 20 nitrates LOL.

Your lfs is probably selling it out of the mixing container. I doubt they would sell water out of thier fish tank water. You could also ask them if they have an rodi unit with inline tds meters. That way you could see what it is reading.
This is how we have it at our store. If a customer asks ..we just let them look at the tds meter.

So I will be looking into my own filtration for tap water very soon. It won't be anything fancy because my budget is low and I live in a college apartment but it sucks having to rely on one LFS to supply me with all my fresh SW for bimonthly WC. My main LFS stopped selling SW and the other LFS I like to Call Aiptasia +1. The lady who runs it likes to think Majano and Brown Button Polyps are the same thing >.<

I have made my own SW a few times from mixing in a 5g bucket with a powerhead and letting it stir over night and with a heater. But this is messy and a PITA - also always unsure of my Sg consistencies, that's why I always prefered to purchase my SW from my LFS for like... $.89/gal? But they've changed their hours to 4 days a week and I'm in school and at work those days

..even with an RO/DI unit you still have to mix the salt....PITA, yes, but it sounds like your making it harder than required....not knowing how big your tank is...I will just go ahead and tell you how I do it....fill up your container(s) with RO/DI water...let them set at room temp overnight(no heater required)as long as you don't live in an Ice cave...lol....add salt and stir it up a couple times...power head is not required...some like to use them...but I never have... and good quality salt mixes quite quickly...test it to your required SG and then do WC. jmo
you do have a refractometer or a hydrometer, yes ?

yes i have a hydrometer, my tank is 29g w/ 10g fuge all together for probably about 30-33gal of water after sand and LR displacement?

You make it sound easy lol, I use Coral-Life Reef Crystal Salt Mix, seems to have higher Ca and other mineral concentrations.

I just use the PH to stir the water because it keeps my hands dry and I've noticed sometimes the salt doesn't want to dissolve too quickly.
