Petco - What the hell.

So we're in Petco picking up something or other for the missus' cat, and fancy a peek at their salt water selection.

****. They had two of those modular "aquarium wall" things they use with what looked like enough fish to fill another three. And you thought your tank was overstocked...

The damsel tank must've had twenty or so in a 10-20 gal division. I pointed out the handful of dead damsels laying on the gravel to the "specialist", who didn't seem overly fussed (daily occurrence hey). They had one adult tang who looked as though someone had thrown acid on his face, huge scars all over it. Nice. One tank that housed corals was covered head to toe in string algae. The specialist told me it was an "Algae Coral". Now i'm new to all this, but i've never heard of that. I have, however, had enough years in freshwater tanks to know what string algae looks like. I had half a mind to buy as much as would fit in my 40 gal just to save the poor gits. Pissed me off no end.

I suppose there isn't much of a point to this thread asides from needing to vent, and obviously another reason for you never to buy anything "live" from Petco. Even a baby hermit crab.

 

lol yeah, around here they shut down their S/W section because nobody would buy from them

 

I started a thread like this earlier. Matt doesn't like this kind of thread too much, and we shouldn't bash one place too much, but I have to agree.

Yep what everyone else has said. I remember a thread not too long ago very similar to this. Some members didn't find the thread too apealing...however it is real stuff.

Bashing stores and abusive language are against the forum rules I believe (don't shoot the messenger...I'm just saying...) and I'd like it if we kept threads like these to a minimum. Maybe it's not against the rules, but the fact that some people don't like to see them should be enough to keep them away. Gotta respect the memberes. I'm not trying to be the kill joy here, I'm just sayin

I do agree with your observation. The reptile section is the same as well, in most stores. There are stores that are exceptions, but most stores in that franchise that I have seen care more about the money than the animals they are dealing with. It's really sad.
