They didn't pay for anything in Greece and you can see how well that is working out for them. I'm cool with restructuring debt for those who are in a bind, but people who took out a loan and can afford to repay it need to do so.[/QUOTE]

Well, to be fair, Greece isn't the only country in Europe either. France and Germany are doing just fine under the same system, right?

That's whats wrong with this country everyone wants a handout, Bail out my student loan?????? Are you serious? Alot of the younger generation has this sense of entitlement, and have no idea what it means to work for a living, and want to live WAY beyond their means. I say dont sign and focus your spare time on working overtime to pay for the debt YOU aqquired, then after you accomplish that pick the saltwater hobby backup when you can afford to spend money on a hobby due to the hard work you have done in your life. (Sorry rant off) It's ideas like this that have put us where we are today.

Well, the thing with the older generation, is that college back then was dirt cheap. $600 for tuition 60 years ago, versus $36,200 today. Back then, the average salary was 5x the average tuition. Today it's 1.27x. Every year, the cost of colleges in the United States, and the Average Student Debt, breaks a new record. The older generation has their retirement in place - which, the younger generation will be funding. The younger generation are forced to put their kids into college and forego their retirement, something the older generation never had to do, because college has skyrocketed in cost. Wanting my children to not have to worry about massive debt from college loans, doesn't give me a feeling of entitlement. Having to forego my retirement savings, for a college savings for my children, doesn't give me a feeling of entitlement.

I'm not looking for a handout either. I just think the system is broken and should be fixed. I have already paid back my $100,000 loan twice over; and I still owe $300,000 in interest. I would suggest that's not fair to anyone, nor necessary. The government bails out everyone and their brother, why not bail out high interest student loans? Was the $528 million dollars to Solyndra a better choice? Or the bank bailouts? I don't know...

That statement in itself states a sense of entitlement.... They bailed out the banks so why not me....

I don't agree with anyone being bailed out not the big banks, or anyone.
if they sink, then let them sink, it only opens doors for the new company's to take their place and maybe run it properly. Why bailout someone who has already sunk let them fail. It is a much needed lesson, and politics on this forum is bad so I will leave it at this. BTW im in the younger generation just with some different views, than I see my friends complain about.

It's a right for us as a citizen of our country, but not in this forum. It's against the user agreement...

Though, I signed a petition just last month to have student loans become a government subsidy. If citizens don't have to pay for their school loans, that's that much more money to be spent in our economy, consuming products, and creating companies...

You had an option. You could have skipped law school and became a country lawyer. That would have saved you a ton. Problem is that is a harder route to take than law school.

You made the decision, signed the loan docs, and now you have to pay the piper. Had you not taken the loan out you would not owed the money. If you could not afford to go to law school, then maybe you should not have gone. The option was yours!
