I picked up a bag of these Reef Rocks from petsmart a few years ago for a cichlid tank i use to have and Ive had them sitting around ever since I took down my cichlid tank about 2 years ago. can I put these in my saltwater tank, I guess its just kinda like dry base rock, I think its just fossilized coral skeletons. if I put them in my tank how should i go about cleaning them? Thanks

without knowing their current "cleanliness" I would nuke them to be safe.

fill up a bucket big enough with water and bleach (I do a 1:10 ratio; actually, I fill a bucket and just pour some bleach in and mix it :p)

Let it soak for 3 days

Fill the bucket with RO and let it soak for another 3 days (I don't worry about alk here, some people do)

I like to do the RO soak twice (so 6 days total) with a fresh batch of RO

Then let it dry for a couple weeks.

    Good to go.

cool thanks alot for the help. I did bleach them once but that was after I took them out of the old tank but they have still been sitting around for a long time so do you think I should still bleach them or just soak them?

really just depends on what they've been exposed to. Since I have no idea, I err on side of caution...
