Are there any long term effects of having a pH that is 7.8?
Any effects to fish, inverts or coral?

December was the last time my pH was 8.0, but since then every time I have checked my water it as been 7.8

    My other params:
    Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate - all undetectable
    PO4 - less than .03
    KH - 9
    Calcium - 500
    Mag - 1350
    Specific Gravity - 1.025
Temp - 78 to 80 (depending on time of day)
    pH - 7.8

These params have been normal and stable at these ranges for many months. No dosing, just use water changes.
If you see anything else of concern about my params let me know. Thanks.

As long as your pH is stable it is generally not a problem. Ca may be a little high and possibly cause hard coral growth retardation.

Is the tank covered with a glass canopy?

Also, does one of your powerheads (or return) ripple the surface of the water?

Open top. My tank is 90% LPS & Soft corals. Only a splash of SPS here and there.

Yes, I have a nano K-powerhead that I use to break the surface of the water.

    Do you use carbon filtration?

Can you air the house out at night? CO2 may be high in the house.

I do not use carbon filtration. Just a skimmer and a canister filter.

It's fairly hot in Orlando right now so we don't usually have the doors or windows open. Even at night it seems like it's 95 outside. That might be a reason why pH is up during the winter months and down during the summer months.

Use carbon in the canister to help remove any acids in the water, this might bump up your pH a little.

We have the reverse house closure scheme here. Can you open the house in the early morning for an hour or two. Just force air through with a box fan.

I'll give it a try. Maybe thats why I feel so lethargic during the summer. Not enough oxygen in the house ;D

Any suggestions about lowering calcium without effecting other parameters?

You said you don't dose so that is going to be difficult since it is coming from your salt mix. Change your salt mix to one with less Ca in it comes to mind.

I get lethargic in the winter when I have to shut the windows for several days.
