    got it up to 450ppm, ph is now 8.2 alk is still high (again still the bad stet kit.)

    in your opinion what is a good practice to keep my levels ok?

    How long does it take for the pink & purple algae to grow?

    When you say good practice do you mean supplement addition? The pink and purple algae will form not sure of exact time , but with proper calcium levels it will form.

    Well I'm back. I received my Alk test kit (fastest) and tested water last nite, , Alk is 400 ppm( it took 16 drops, divided by 2 is 8 ) is that the millipL) ( it says something about Multiplying the 8 by 2.4 for the Dkh , could that be right?
    Ca is @ 450
    PH-- 8.4
    lots of green algae
    tankmates seem to be ok
    any comments on what i should do next?

    2.8 dKH = 1.0 meq/l = 50 ppm CaCO3
