My tanks Ph has risen to about 9.0. I have recalibrated my ph meter several times and it seems to be correct. Anybody have any ideas why my pH is so high? is it bad?

Try using a chemical test to make sure your digital one is correct. Mine went way off and I had to buy another one...

Yeah, if that's accurate, you're too high and your fish aren't liking you too much. I normally ran my pH at 8.5~8.6 which is higher than most recommend but I did it this way for a long time.

This article will give you all of the possibilities. I recommend reading the entire article before using any of the methods that can reduce pH.

    kalkwasser being used

    HI,
If you meters good , the one thing that spike PH,ANd KH is kalkwasser if you add it to fast or if you don't let it sit 24 hours and siphon off the klear liquid the white powder will really spike the kh and the ph.
most like killing alot. another is adding to much buffer to fast, something like baking soda can wreck your ph if not done very carefully in small increments.
    Doug
PS never add buffers without at least checking kh new tanks don't need as much. high PH and KH can lead to a precip event and you'll lose alot of the CA and some mag. been there done that.

Club Soda is what I find to be best . But 9.0 is nothing to panice about Like In wall mentioned I also run my rather high upwards of 8.6 8.8 on average .. I have always found that these levels help to keep pest algaes at bay..
