After just over 3 weeks of cycling, my pH =8.0, alkalinity 4.0 mEq/L. I have heard that pH should be closer to 8.2, and alkalinity between 6-8 mEq/L. Do I need to do anything to raise these values, or are they ok as they are?

You may have heard alkalinity should be at 6-8dkh but not 6-8meq/l. Where you are at now is fine. Most people go for between 3.0-4.5 meq/l. PH is fine as long as it is stable at 8.0

The higher you can get and maintain the pH faster calcification will take place(to an extent!!!!) 8.4 is a great value to shoot for but to many people it is like chasing the dragon and you will never quite get it there.
Alkalinity is another value like Ca that people assume, if x value is good then more is better. Not true, stick to as close as you can get to sea water levels. Higher alkalinity levels have been alluded to browing out SPS and also just like any supersaturated solution, meerwasser can only handle so much before it falls out of solution, running high, levels across the board will have you flirting with precipitation.

    Happy reefing!
