I just read a thread on xenia and found out that the ph may have a thing to do with it pulsating. My ph is about 8.0. How do i get it to 8.3? Also, do most corals (especially zoanthids) do well with a salinity of 1.025?

I recommend shooting for 1.0265 which is what most NSW is. (Whenever moving up in SG, always do it SLOWLY).

The following is VERY complicated to explain. However, the higher your SG, the more Calcium and Alkalinity you can have. Higher alkalinity helps you keep your pH higher. Skimmers are excellent off-gassers of CO2 and that helps you keep your pH higher as well. If you are still lower in pH, sometimes you need to point a powerhead at the surface of the water to disturb the air/water interface.

Man, that salt level seems high to me, but I am pretty new to this hobby... How high is too high?

Calcium and oxygen exchange promotes higher ph as well? I should probobly get a calcium test kit or something... Any online resource you can direct me to concerning anything to do with this subject would be great..

    Thanks for all your help.

That is the specific gravity of most ocean water where corals are collected. The reason why all the hobby s.g. swing arm type meters show 1.023 as a normal range is for fish only tanks.

Not all Xenia pulse! The waving hand Xenia will pulse rapidly and will do so especially with a high salinity.
